Fifty three years ago, the popular music industry was completely different than it is today. Instead of phones, limewire, and ITunes, music was foisted on the masses by radio and records.
Let’s picture the scene that may have surrounded this awful record. Bob comes home from school via the soda shop, and he really wants a Jerry Lee Lewis record. In fact, he’s been bugging his mom for weeks now.
Imagine his surprise when Mom announces, “Bob, I have a surprise for you. I got you a nice rock and roll record for you and your sister to enjoy!” Bob is happy, but when Mom hands him this shiny new specimen, he’s a little suspicious.
Imagine his horror when he puts needle to vinyl and hears what comes out of the speaker of his record player. Immediately, he says to himself, “What the hell is this?” Check it out for yourself:
Yes, this is one of those infamous Masterseal Records, and similar scenes of domestic discord likely resulted all over the country when unsuspecting parents shelled out $1.49 at the grocery store for this crap. I got this record in a huge pile a friend scored for me at a yard sale, and I figured I paid about fifteen cents for it. That’s about what it’s worth, even considering the novelty value.
