This soaked episode came about on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at 2200 UTC on WBCQ 7.415 and 5.110 MHz. There's more than enough conceptual contunuity for you here, including yard sale vinyl, a Link Wray cover, and poor ol' Blue Boy got busted again on the radio. Lumpy Weiner Worldwide

Posted at 12:16PM on Saturday, May 3, 2008 in allan weiner worldwide and hf and lumpy gravy radio show and wbcq.
Once again, we took the reigns of Allan Weiner's weekly radio show and morphed it into something rather different that what it normally is. We discussed the Voice of Freedom Radio, some high points on the WBCQ schedule, modulating oscillator circuits, played some Allman Brothers jams featuring "My Favorite Things," and took some phone calls. This happened live on Friday, May 2, 2008 (Saturday 0000 UTC) on WBCQ 7.415, 5.110, and 17.495. Allan and Jennifer are attending the Nearfest in Deerfield, New Hampshire. [213]

I'm not the Captain

Posted at 11:46PM on Sunday, April 27, 2008 in grits and hf and jane in space and lumpy gravy radio show and rni and wbcq.

This one went off about 0136 or so on WBCQ 7.415 MHz, following Brad's first ever RNI Grits Radio Show. This is our first 90 minute show. Except for the intro, we spent no time at all prepping for this. Our live phone patch aircheck to WBCQ was excellent from when Brad went on at 0000 UTC until about 30 minutes into our Lumpy part, when the shortwave signal took a dive and went long. StaticJunkie reported we were being heard in the UK pretty good for the first 2 hours or so. Despite the earlier jamba, and the inability to take live fone calls, this was a lot of fun. We greatly enjoy filling in for John Lightning and RNI.

This setlist is a little bit out of order and is incomplete. I'll get around shortly to cleaning it up. -- Lw

There's lots of live vinyl in this one; for the first time we ran some selections directly off the turntable. We had to feed WBCQ by telephone today, but conditions were excellent on 7415. 5110 is starting to get a bit noisy at this time, but we could copy it good here as well. This went out live on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at 2200 UTC, on WBCQ 7.415 and 5.110 MHz.

Note: Jane and Jean were both determined to be Popes today, and Jane says they need to get together and DO SOME POPIN'.

Fred's Conspiracy

Posted at 10:38AM on Sunday, March 30, 2008 in area 51 and hf and lumpy gravy radio show and wbcq.
No sign of jammers on 7415 this evening as we tossed this radio show out into the air. 5110 was bothered all evening but still there for the whole Area 51 experience for us. Jane chose some sappy and strange vinyl for today's show, interspersed with listener requests and live phone calls.

This one is a warm-up for our RNI marathon planned for Sunday evening. We'll be going live on the internet at 7PM (128K stereo MP3 and 32k mono aac plus) and live on WBCQ 7415 shortwave from 8 to 11.

Lumpy studio

Posted at 5:25PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 in jane and lumpy gravy radio show.

These photos are from our studio and were taken during last weekend's all-Zappa Lumpy Gravy Radio Show. Jane is bewildered, indeed.

Did we mention that we're renovating our studio?

Jane greets our valued shortwave listeners who checked in via e-mail.

An encounter with cosmikdebris, the host of the show.

Zappa Head

Posted at 11:36AM on Sunday, March 16, 2008 in area 51 and hf and lumpy gravy radio show and wbcq and zappa.

Back before we did a show for WBCQ, I did a handful of shows for Dr. Becker's FM station in Kiowa that featured Zappa's material. Four years later we've come full circle. Here's a mix that we pushed forth onto the airwaves at 2200 UTC on Saturday, March 15, 2008, on WBCQ 7.415 and 5.110 MHz.

After hours, we discovered that Brad has a better sounding and more complete soundboard recording of the Fillmore West concert where our feature "Call Any Vegetable" originated from. It is one of my all time favorite Zappa shows, and the original "tape that Jane used to use to annoy the neighbors." When we get a copy of Brad's tape we'll post it here for you, and maybe we'll air it on Area 51 someday soon.

Posted at 2:02PM on Sunday, February 3, 2008 in area 51 and hf and lumpy gravy radio show and wbcq.

This show happened at 2300 UTC on Saturday, February 2, 2008 live on WBCQ 5.110 and 7.415 MHz. Conditions are slowly improving, and we got out far and wide once again, although 7.415 is still skipping long at this time of day. The music sounded so good on 5110 that we were occasionally paying more attention to the sound of the radio instead of programming a radio show.

Saturday, January 19, 2007, at 2300 UTC, on WBCQ 5.110 and 7.415 MHz shortwave. Shortwave was good today on both frequencies for this show. We got lots of good listener feedback from near and far. Our second live hour quickly turned into a free form exploitation of WBCQ 5.110 MHz on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at 0000 UTC. This was great fun, as we interactively took vile and twisted requests from our various co-conspirators, associate producers, and other malcontents. Signal on 5110 was excellent for this show.

Jane 32 and a song

Posted at 8:06PM on Friday, December 28, 2007 in 867-5309 and hf and lumpy gravy radio show and wbcq.

Allan asked if we would like to do another impromptu, spur of the moment broadcast this evening as a pinch hit for Jennifer's 867-5309, and we were happy to accommodate him. Sadly, conditions were poor tonight here. 5110 was good for the first half of Area 51, from 2200 to about 2300, then it was covered with noise and faded away. I could hear World of Radio in upper side band at 2335 check. 7415 was gone all evening, until it started to come in above the noise about 0055.

Area 51 started today, Saturday, December 2007, with a fine relay of Liquid Radio's live webcast at 2200 on WBCQ 5110. The signal was decent and the sound was excellent. Thanks to Liquid for an exellent musical first hour.

At 2300 we picked up WBCQ 7415 in addition to 5110 for the second hour of Area 51, our fourth annual acid-soaked Lumpy Gravy Christmas show. Good to mixed reception on 5110 and 7415, with 5110 steady here with long deep fades, and 7415 slowly disappearing into the noise as the hour progressed.

Tonight's turgid episode was broadcast live at 2200 UTC on WBCQ 7.415 MHz worldwide international shortwave, and on the net at the usual places. Spotty reception resulting from solar activity today. Despite that, signals were observed all around, from Wisconsin, Maine, Nova Scotia, Louisiana, and Minnesota. Others closer in, and here in Maryland, listened off the 'net as the signal dropped badly after the top of the hour. We were on shortwave at 2155 today and did a brief set of tasty musical numbers to warm up. This is show #172.

Our 155th show was produced completely on the spur of the moment. This one went out at 2300 UTC (7PM eastern time) on Satuday, July 6, 2007, as a very late fill-in for Jen's 867-5309 show.
